Chris Thile - Thanks For Listening Thanks For Listening
Nonesuch Records releases mandolinist, singer, songwriter, and radio host Chris Thile's Thanks for Listening on December 8, 2017, with the vinyl to follow on December 15. The album is a collection of songs that were originally written for performance on A Prairie Home Companion. Since becoming the American Public Media program's host, Thile has, each week, written one new (often topical) "Song of the Week" that gets its debut performance on that Saturday's live broadcast—with Thile, the house band, and some of his guest musicians. For Thanks for Listening, Thile and producer Thomas Bartlett chose ten songs from nineteen possibilities and created new studio recordings of them, rather than merely documenting them as originally performed.

K. Michelle - KIMBERLY: The People I Used To Know KIMBERLY: The People I Used To Know

The album feels confessional. Each of the songs on the album is about someone who she's met during her life's journey and how it's left a mark on her. Each person that has left a mark has influenced her direction down life's path. With this album, K. Michelle finds herself at a vulnerable crossroad and she's prepared to share the experience with her fans both new and old.

Belle & Sebastian - How To Solve Our Human Problems (Part 1) EP [Vinyl] How To Solve Our Human Problems (Part 1) EP [Vinyl]

A new Belle and Sebastian release is always something to cheer. So three new releases leads to the inevitable conclusion: three cheers! Here is the latest installment in a career that has always pursued a singular and delightful vision of what pop represents and what it can achieve, a career that has seen them triumph against the odds to win a Brit award, be one of the first bands to curate their own festival, and play at the official London residence of the US ambassador (the last president’s ambassador, not the current one’s). Murdoch, as ever, is not the only writer. Sarah Martin (violin/ vocals) brought in the delicious ‘The Same Star’, which marries Belle and Sebastian’s melodiousness to a pounding Motown backbeat, and was produced by Leo Abrahams (Ghostpoet, Wild Beasts, Regina Spektor). “We’d met Leo in February of 2016, and I’d say that meeting and the recording of ‘I’ll Be Your Pilot’ were the first tangible steps of this EP project,” Martin says. “We didn’t have a stack of songs to play him, but we liked him and he became a part of the plan from that point - and when I’d got to a point with ‘The Same Star’ where it just needed to be recorded, I thought it could benefit from having a producer to steer things, and fortunately we had a slot in the diary marked ‘Leo’ coming up. It’s not a song we’d laboured over playing for months - it fell together quite quickly thanks in large part to Bob’s [Bobby Kildea, guitarist] enthusiasm and Stuart’s willingness to dismember an old song and repurpose the break, so that it wasn’t just the same three chords over and over and over.” There’s one big reason why 15 songs are coming out on three EPs, rather than one album. “We’d made a couple of LPs, Tigermilk and If You’re Feeling Sinister, within the space of six months,” Murdoch says, remembering the early days of the band’s career, and how that fed into their decision-making this time. Part 2 will be released January 19th, 2018. Part 3 & a gorgeous box set + CD encompassing all three EPs will be available February 16, 2018.

Collective Soul - Live Live

After landing a total of ten #1 hits, moving over 20 million records worldwide, and selling out shows everywhere with a stage, Collective Soul—Ed Roland [vocals, guitars, keyboards], Dean Roland [guitars], Will Turpin [bass], Jesse Triplett [guitars], and Johnny Rabb [drums]—staunchly and proudly remain a rock ‘n’ roll band through and through. Nowhere is that reassuring fact more apparent than on the first proper live album of the group’s 25-year career, LIVE. Fittingly, they introduce the collection with a live piano rendition of their biggest hit 1993’s “Shine”—which would be crowned #1 Album Rock Song of 1994, win a Billboard award for “Top Rock Track,” land on VH1’s “100 Greatest Songs of the ‘90s,” and notch Dolly Parton a GRAMMY® Award for “Best Vocal Performance” on her 2001 cover. Preserving the soulful spark that established them as the “Southern Gentlemen of the Alternative Rock Scene,” Collective Soul build upon a formidable foundation. They were inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2009. To date, they average over 1 million Spotify streams a month. From a classic performance at Woodstock 1994 to a notable placement on the Twilight soundtrack, their influence continues to course through generations of pop culture.

Evanescence - Synthesis [LP] Synthesis [LP]

EVANESCENCE returns this Fall with SYNTHESIS, their fourth studio album. The group premiered “Bring Me To Life”—an instant grat track—via Rolling Stone. “’Bring Me To Life’ is new to me again after 15 years,” says AMY LEE of EVANESCENCE. It’s diffi cult to explain how good that makes me feel. Having the chance to incorporate things I’ve heard in my head throughout that long period of time, nuances from the way I sing it live, just pouring the weight and perspective of the life I’ve lived now back into that root—it’s pure satisfaction.” The two-time, GRAMMY Award-winning group is currently in the studio fi nishing the new album through August with producers Will Hunt and orchestra arranger and composer David Campbell. In addition to the re-imagined catalog songs, the forthcoming SYNTHESIS album will feature two new EVANESCENCE songs. Like the album, the “Synthesis Live” tour features a reimagining of some of EVANESCENCE’s best-loved songs with the spotlight on full orchestra and electronics combined with the band and Amy Lee’s virtuoso piano and voice. 2017 promises to be the biggest year for EVANESCENCE yet, as their intense live performances and timeless songwriting combined with a powerful live orchestra and electronics will truly deliver a transcendent experience.

Robert Finley - Goin' Platinum! [LP] Goin' Platinum! [LP]

And now we have Goin' Platinum!, the newest effort from the soon-to-be legendary soul singer Robert Finley and his crack band of geniuses. From the lovelorn bombast of "If You Forget My Love" to the soul-stirring "Medicine Woman," and the home-on-the-road ripper "Empty Arms" to the yearning "Honey Let Me Stay the Night," all capped by the epic closer "Holy Wine," featuring Finley's ethereal falsetto, Finley's performance left Dan Auerbach speechless-as it will anyone who lays ears to it.
As for the album title, Dan Auerbach gives all credit to Finley and his huge but wholly considerate personality. "He was just beaming from the second he walked in the door," Auerbach says. "Every time he'd listen to playback, he'd say, ‘It's goin' platinum.' That was his catch phrase.

Gary Moore - Blues And Beyond [2CD] Blues And Beyond [2CD]

BMG proudly release Gary Moore’s Blues and Beyond, a remarkable collection of his powerful and emotive blues studio recordings. Blues and Beyond is released on double CD, 4 LP and as a box set, which includes unreleased live recordings and the official Gary Moore biography I Can’t Wait Until Tomorrow written by Harry Shapiro. Best known for his evocative solo hits, Parisienne Walkways and Still Got the Blues (live versions feature in this set), and his on/off membership of Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore’s solo career comprises over twenty albums. Throughout the 1980s, Gary moved up the rock hierarchy, but turned his back on what he regarded as the empty flash of metal and reverted to his heart music – the blues – where ironically he scored his biggest commercial success through his 1990s and 2000s blues albums. As well as running his own bands, during a successful solo career, Gary mixed with the best that rock and blues could offer, playing live and on record with George Harrison, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, Greg Lake, BB King, Albert King, Albert Collins and many others. Gary was also the guitarist many looked up to, not just for the terrifying speed of his fretwork, but for the passion, fire and honesty in his playing.

Debby Boone - You Light Up My Life: 40th Anniversary Expanded Edition You Light Up My Life: 40th Anniversary Expanded Edition

Folks, you are probably not going to believe it when we tell you this, but Debby Boone’s You Light Up My Life platinum-selling original album has never been reissued in any form, physical or digital! That a #6 charting album from 1977, one with an iconic song that went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart—as well as Top 10 Country—and stayed there for a record-setting ten weeks, has been unavailable for decades is almost inconceivable when even the most obscure albums have been reissued on CD and everything seems to be available online even if you can’t find a physical copy. But no, it really is true…and now, with Debby’s help, we at Real Gone Music are going to make up for lost time in the 40th anniversary of its original release. To start, you get the original album remastered digitally (by Ted Carfrae) for the first time ever, featuring the #1 hit “You Light Up My Life” as well as the Adult Contemporary hits “Baby I’m Yours,” “When the Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes” and “Hasta Manana” (the latter two performed by Debby with her sisters). Then, for this Deluxe Expanded CD Edition, we’ve added no less than 14 bonus tracks: non-LP rarities like “He’s a Rebel,” the B-side to “You Light Up My Life,” a pair of collectible Motown singles by The Boone Girls and seven unreleased recordings featuring charming remakes of classic ‘60s pop favorites from “You Don’t Own Me” to “The Last Thing on My Mind.” With production work by Mike Curb, Bob Gaudio, Michael Lloyd, Fred Werner, Joe Brooks and Don Costa, these long-lost sides are seminal ‘70s soft rock, and to place them in proper context, writer Joe Marchese has conducted an extensive interview with Debby for the liner notes. Throw in rare photos and this set truly will light up the life of any pop music lover…still can’t believe this one went four decades without a reissue!

Originally released through the Beastie Boys' French fan club, The In Sound From Way Out! is a collection of the group's funky instrumentals from Check Your Head and Ill Communication, with a couple of new tracks thrown in. The Beasties have a flair for loose, gritty funk and soul-jazz, and the stuttering, greasy keyboards of Money Mark give the music an extra edge -- he helps make the music sound as authentic as anything from the early '70s. Wiki - No Mountains In Manhattan [LP] No Mountains In Manhattan [LP]

Wiki’s anticipated debut album, following his lauded membership in Ratking, sees him pushing himself into the spotlight as the voice of a new generation of New York City hip hop. Arriving December 8th, No Mountains In Manhattan has been proclaimed one of the best rap albums of 2017 with continuing praise and coverage from The New Yorker, New York Times, The Fader, Pitchfork, SPIN, XXL and many more. This release sees Wiki adding two bonus tracks, neither of which appear on the digital release. No Mountains in Manhattan is a journey through the trials and tribulations of a coming to age experience in New York’s most populated borough. Entirely crafted in XL’s New York City studio, the album is New York to the core - featuring local emcees, from legend to novice. While Wiki’s 2015 mixtape, Lil Me, was a snap- shot into the youthful energy of an artist on the brink of adulthood, No Mountains in Manhattan finds the now 23-year-old artist facing his demons head on as he tackles topics such as addiction, relationships, identity, and responsibility. No Mountains in Manhattan is an introspective narrative of Wiki’s life over the past year - a journey of peaks and valleys, of loss and gain, with a conclusion of understanding. The album’s track list features fellow New York natives, both legend and novice, including Ghostface Killah, Lakutis, ACAB, Slicky Boy, Your Old Droog and more. Production credits include Ratking’s Sporting Life, Tony Seltzer, Kaytranada, Earl Sweatshirt, and Wiki himself. “Wiki just delivered one of the best rap albums of 2017” - DJ Booth “it’s not very often that a true New York poet comes around…Wiki is one of those.” - The Fader “His love letter to the city, No Mountains In Manhattan is the most New York-ass sounding rap record all year.” - Pigeons and Planes

Searchers - Another Night: The Sire Recordings 1979-1981 Another Night: The Sire Recordings 1979-1981

During the British Invasion, there was another Liverpool band topping the charts worldwide. The Searchers had 11 Top 40 hits between 1963 and 1966 in the UK, including 3 #1’s with “Needles And Pins,” “Sweets For My Sweet,” and “Don’t Throw Our Love Away.” They had 8 in the US including their #3 cover of “Love Potion No. 9.” By the end of the decade, their chart presence may have slowed down, but The Searchers didn’t. The band continued to hone their sound on the live circuit, adding a modern musical crunch to their incredible harmonies. After being seen by Sire Records head Seymour Stein, he offered them a new home on his new wave flagship label (Ramones, Talking Heads, Dead Boys, and soon, Pretenders). The Searchers returned in 1979 with a self-titled release, featuring originals and covers of tracks from Tom Petty, The Records, Bob Dylan, and “Switchboard Susan” – a concurrent hit for Nick Lowe. Produced by Pat Moran (Be Bop Deluxe, Dr. Feelgood, and Rush – yes, that Rush), it was a sonic powerhouse. They quickly followed the self-titled album in the next year with Love’s Melodies (titled Play For Today in the UK), with Ed Stasium (Ramones, Talking Heads, Smithereens) joining Moran as co-producer. More originals, and more covers (Big Star, Moon Martin, and others), and another great album. Both records were released multiple times in different territories, with different track lists, B-sides, and mixes. They have been unavailable for the past decade. Another Night: The Sire Recordings 1979-1981 straightens out and corrects all those matters by compiling everything onto one 2-CD set. The collection features 29 tracks and also includes a previously unissued cover of john Hiatt’s “Ambulance Chaser.” Packaging contains album cover artwork from the different territories, and an essay from Scott Schinder, with new interviews from the band’s Mike Pender, John McNally, and Frank Allen. These recordings have continued to loom large in the hearts of Searchers fans. They need to search no more with Another Night: The Sire Recordings 1979-1981.

Sleepless In Seattle [Movie] - Sleepless In Seattle [Limited Edition Blue LP] Sleepless In Seattle [Limited Edition Blue LP]

One of the great trio of romantic comedies starring Meg Ryan that were written and/or directed by the late Nora Ephron (When Harry Met Sally and You’ve Got Mail being the other two), 1993’s Sleepless in Seattle was arguably the most romantic movie of its generation, and its soundtrack was a big reason why. With artists old (Louis Armstrong, Nat “King” Cole, Gene Autry), new (Céline Dion, Harry Connick, Jr.) and somewhere in between (Carly Simon, Joe Cocker, Tammy Wynette), the movie’s array of songs (many chosen by Ephron herself) appealed to hearts of every vintage and tastes of every stripe, and the tunes themselves represented the best that the Brill Building and Nashville had to offer. Indeed, the film re-introduced a whole new generation to the unique charms of Jimmy Durante with his renditions of “As Time Goes By” and “Make Someone Happy” over the opening and closing credits, respectively, resulting in a boomlet of enthusiasm for the work of the ol’ Schnozzola. The music was so powerful, in fact, and so integrated with the screenplay that it helped gloss over the incredibility of the film’s premise, which, as you might recall, had Meg Ryan falling in love with Tom Hanks, a stranger she had never met, merely from hearing him being interviewed on a radio talk show on Christmas Eve. But such fantasies are what movies are made for, especially romantic comedies, and for this first-ever U.S. release of the soundtrack to Sleepless in Seattle on LP, we at Real Gone Music have tried to capture some of that “stardust” with a blue vinyl edition limited to 1000 copies. Just in time for Christmas, too…maybe this release will spark (or re-kindle) some holiday romances of its own!

Red Death - Formidable Darkness Formidable Darkness

When a band forms, as Red Death did in late 2013, primarily out of reverence for Corrosion of Conformity — and especially when half the members hail from North Carolina — their second LP is bound to have a lot riding on it. Yet to say that Red Death have risen to the occasion is to say not nearly enough for Formidable Darkness, their new eight-song masterwork. It isn’t just their Animosity; it’s the best record to emerge from the hardcore scene’s hallowed metal/crossover wing since Iron Age’s The Sleeping Eye rewrote our DNA in 2009. Everything that made 2015’s Permanent Exile LP and 2016’s Deterrence EP modern classics has been amplified on the new album: the solos soar higher, the riffs penetrate deeper, the rhythm section pounds harder and with more precision, and the vocals are more unhinged. And it didn’t hurt that Arthur Rizk, by general consensus the best young producer in the game today, oversaw the recording. From their first practice in D.C. some four years ago, Red Death have been heirs to the proudest of traditions in the heavy-music underground, and with Formidable Darkness they’ve fulfilled their immense promise — just in time for the world’s ignominious end. As it was written, so it shall be.

Danny Elfman - Justice League (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) Justice League (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

The album features one of the industry’s most versatile and accomplished film composers, Danny Elfman, who is returning to score a DC Super Hero film for the first time since 1992’s Batman Returns.

While bringing his celebrated and unique approach to the Justice League score, Elfman also gives DC fans some special familiar moments. Utilizing memorable character themes to tell the musical story, he incorporates and re-interprets iconic music from past films, including John Williams’ Superman theme, Hans Zimmer’s Wonder Woman theme, and his own Batman theme. “I’m using the same thematic material that I used back then,” Elfman told Billboard Magazine. “It never actually went away. We’ve got these iconic bits from our past and that’s part of us, that’s part of our heritage. It just was great fun.”

The soundtrack also features a blistering version of The Beatles’ “Come Together” by electrifying virtuoso guitarist Gary Clark Jr. and Grammy-nominated and multiplatinum producer, musician, and composer Junkie XL; along with Norwegian pop singer/ songwriter Sigrid’s haunting and powerful take on Leonard Cohen’s “Everybody Knows,” and The White Stripes classic “Icky Thump.”

Visible Cloaks - Lex [LP] Lex [LP]

Visible Cloaks’ Lex proposes a utopian dream language and its accompanying sound, a limitless, delicate space developed by fluid musical techniques and subconscious voices. The six pieces comprising Lex simulate a more peaceful future, their mysteries telling a new tale in an unknown but imaginable melodic language. Visible Cloaks are the Portland-based musicians Spencer Doran and Ryan Carlile. Utilizing software-based composition rooted in randomization, MIDItranslation and chance operations, the duo has established an improbable humanist mode of music from esoteric processes. Following their self-titled debut album, Visible Cloaks offered Reassemblage, an album simultaneously honoring the post-Yellow Magic Orchestra school of avant musical adventure and diverging from it. Veering from the paths cleared by Japanese and Italian electronic pop and ambient artists of the mid-80s / early- 90s, Reassemblage established Visible Cloaks’ own camp in a forest of deep sound canopied by trees grown from synthetic seeds. The sound represented on Lex is webbed with sculptural arrangements and interpolated by the sounds of alien speech. These strange and serene utterances were created by Doran feeding a chain of multiple dialects and accents through a language translation software to create an auditory poetry of an evolved place and time. Lex features both the final version of this process and earlier, simplified experiments with it (“Keys”). “The idea – building on ‘fourth world’ or ‘global village’ type concepts – was to create a projected language that was a fusion of many,” Doran explains. “The result was a very disorienting form of non-language that amplifies the lapses in meaning that occur with the inaccuracy of auto-translation software.” Permutate Lex, a companion short film to Lex made by Visible Cloaks in collaboration with artist Brenna Murphy (who also created the artwork for Reassemblage and several virtualist videos for the album), is an integral counterpart, both visualizing an aesthetic alive with human form and guiding the sonic experience of the first five pieces: “Wheel,” “Frame,” “Transient,” “Keys,” and title track “Lex.” “World,” the longest piece presented on Lex, is redrawn from a generative composition originally produced for an installation Doran made with Murphy. The original work incorporates LFOs and randomized MIDI-information, and was intended to variate indefinitely. In this ‘fixed’ version, “World” provides a more conclusive view into the impossible musical environments Visible Cloaks make real. Longer than any track on Reassemblage, “World” expresses the deepening, patient intimations suggested by Lex. Doran says the Lex “attempts to communicate the essence of a world distant enough that it can’t be captured or comprehended from the present, appearing only surreal and inscrutable.” The statement reveals a broader musical philosophy fueling this new moment; an awakened voice woven through complex melodic shapes and phrases establishes communication between listeners and the unknown, here presented by Visible Cloaks as sounds coloring the very edge of the envisionable. Visible Cloaks’ Lex is available December 8 in LP and digital formats. An exclusive CD version of Lex featuring the audio of Permutate Lex will be available around Visible Cloaks Japanese November / December 2017 tour with Sugai Ken.

Strawbs - The Ferryman's Curse The Ferryman's Curse

The first Strawbs album of new material in eight long years!

Esoteric Antenna is very pleased to announce the release of The Ferryman's Curse, the first Strawbs album of new material in eight long years. It is produced by the legendary Chris Tsangarides, whose studio is littered with diamond, platinum, and gold discs by the likes of Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest and guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen. The Ferryman's Curse, the title track of the album, is the epic sequel to The Vision Of The Lady Of The Lake, from Strawbs album Dragonfly, rated by producer Tony Visconti as one of his Top six productions alongside albums by David Bowie and T Rex. The Nails From The Hands Of Christ is a challenging look at the relationship that young people have with the church. The Familiarity Of Old Lovers will raise eyebrows, both lyrically and with its twin lead guitar solos, while The Song Of Infinite Sadness is not what it appears to be. The current Strawbs line-up comprises David Cousins, lead guitarist Dave Lambert, bass player Chas Cronk, and drummer Tony Fernandez, who recorded and toured together in the 1970s. They are joined by keyboard and guitar virtuoso Dave Bainbridge of Iona - a band who created a mystical blend of rock, folk, Celtic and ambient music - a perfect match for Strawbs.

Ocs - Memory Of A Cut Off Head Memory Of A Cut Off Head

It is easy to forget (especially amidst the ringing of ears and aching of muscles after a typical Oh Sees show) that initially, OCS was a rather hushed affair. After the minimalistic brutality of Coachwhips, the band was the diametric opposite corner of John Dwyer's musical world, quiet to the point of whispered in the wind, buffeted by the airy whirr of singing saw, soft and strange. Those early records especially had a rather contraband hush about them, as if the party had gone on all night and continued into the morning and everyone's raspy from talking too much and agrees to whisper and pantomime as they watch the sun come up over the hills. Since then of course, things got gradually louder, faster, crazier... The band evolved into the Oh Sees everyone knows. For the 20th Oh Sees release, 100th Castle Face title, and 20th year doing it, Dwyer re-examines the quieter roots of it all in particularly baroque and homesteadly fashion. Memory Of A Cut Off Head was co-written with longtime collaborator and vocal counterpoint Brigid Dawson, recorded in total in Dwyer's own Stu Stu Studio, and it's lush, sumptuous in texture, but satisfyingly retains the gentle grace of the early stuff. There's beautifully executed strings throughout, courtesy of Heather Lockie's fine arrangements, horn arrangements courtesy of Mikal Cronin, and they even brought back the old saw-Patrick Mullins, that is-on saw and electronics. A return and a refinement of old forms, a few solemn meditations on life lived at high velocity, perhaps a respite from it... a softer side of JPD and distinguished company.

Michael Crimson - Medusa Medusa

''Medusa's groundbreaking songs feature otherworldly guitar melodies that ring out above a multitude of instrumental harmonies and heavy, rolling rhythms that explode together into an expansive universe of sound. The lyrics of ''Medusa'' are rooted in the magic and mystery of epic stories from Greek mythology. It is through compelling characters like Medusa and Perseus that Crimson explores his personal experiences with romantic love, faith, self-discovery, grief, death and beyond. Crimson's songs shift perspectives between characters in order to shed light on different scenes from his own life through powerful, distinct voices. By diving into the depths of mythology and adding his own contemporary interpretations of classic tales, Crimson opens up a mysterious yet relatable new world.
